Aiken Hosts Its First Ever Women United Galentine’s Lunch!

In Aiken this February 13, ladies gathered for a fantastic celebration of friendship at the inaugural Women United Galentine’s Lunch. Taking place at the United Way of Aiken County’s Sharon L. Rodgers Community Resource Center, the event aimed to spread joy, love, and appreciation among women. A heartfelt day was in store as attendees took a break from their busy schedules to celebrate the connections that matter most – friendship.

Celebrating Female Bonds

The theme of the lunch was all about honoring the strong bonds women share, and the atmosphere was filled with laughter and good vibes. Current chair of Women United, Keyatta Priester, shared her unique take on what love means, cleverly turning it into an inspirational acronym. The letters spelled out keys to self-care that all women should embrace.

  • L is for listen to your body and its needs.
  • O stands for own your power, honey.
  • V signifies value your health—mentally, spiritually, and physically.
  • E encourages women to elevate one another.

This uplifting message was embraced by the audience, setting a positive tone for the gathering. Keyatta also wears another major hat as the chair of the board of directors for the United Way of Aiken County, where she continues to champion meaningful causes.

A Diverse Gathering of Talented Women

The lunch saw an inspiring mix of attendees, including members of the Aiken City Council. Women from various professions—attorneys, bankers, and even stay-at-home moms—came together to connect and find out how they could get involved with Women United’s mission to support and improve the lives of women and children throughout Aiken County.

During the event, Barbara Morgan conveyed messages of inspiration, encouraging everyone to find their spark. Cherell Butler, the chair-elect of the Women United Steering Committee, spoke about maintaining emotional balance, reminding everyone about the importance of looking after mental health.

Community Support Shines Bright

This delightful gathering was made possible with the support of several generous sponsors including Aiken Regional Medical Centers, Aiken Electric Cooperative, Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, Chick-fil-A of Aiken, and the Aiken Standard. A special shoutout goes to Chick-fil-A, which provided delicious food and refreshing beverages, ensuring that everyone left with their bellies full and their spirits even fuller. In celebration of the day, heart-shaped cookies made by the Tri-Development Center’s Busy Bakers added a lovely touch to the menu.

Connecting and Celebrating

Among the attendees, Christine Lewis and Ramonia Nelson were spotted enjoying the spirit of camaraderie as they mingled with other strong women from different walks of life. Observers noted how invigorating it was to see such a diverse array of attendees coming together in voice and purpose.

Ellen Luton, president and chief professional officer of the United Way of Aiken County, couldn’t have summed it up better when she expressed pride over the powerful presence of women gathering to uplift and support one another. The Galentine’s Lunch proved to be more than just an event; it was a movement towards ensuring that all women know they’re valued and appreciated.

As the afternoon wrapped up, new friends were made, connections were strengthened, and the mission to empower women in the community continued to grow. Here’s to many more events that celebrate female friendships and the valuable bonds that lift us all!
