The tournament bracket has officially been released, and excitement is in the air. USC Aiken is set to host the No. 7 seed Flagler in a quarterfinal matchup on Wednesday. The format of the tournament means that higher-seeded teams host the four quarterfinal games, and if Aiken plays their cards right, they could also earn the chance to host the semifinals, provided they win on Wednesday, and Columbus State has a little luck on their side against Georgia Southwestern.
Fans can look forward to engaging matchups as other quarterfinal games include Augusta going up against North Georgia, and USC Beaufort facing off against Lander. The excitement builds as teams battle it out for the opportunity to compete in the semifinals and finals later in the tournament.
On senior day, three standout players really made their mark: Simeon German, Jalen McCoy, and Rhyjon Blackwell. Coach Mark Vanderslice praised the trio for their dedication, emphasizing their champion spirit. Simeon German particularly shone with a remarkable performance, recording 15 points, 14 rebounds, and four blocks. His contributions were essential in solidifying the Pacers’ strong finish.
Notably, Davion Cunningham also had an outstanding game, notching a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jalen McCoy contributed significantly with 14 points and came just shy of a double-double with nine rebounds. Caleb Byrd rounded out the notable performances with a commendable 10 points.
The team’s defensive strategy was on full display, as they limited Lander to just 18 points in the second half. Aiken’s commitment to strong defense combined with their offensive prowess truly makes them a team to watch as they gear up for the tournament.
Fans can feel excited about USC Aiken’s chances in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, especially since they have previously shown their strength against Flagler, having swept them during the regular season with wins of 89-84 on January 8 and 91-74 on February 5.
