In a thrilling showdown at the Convocation Center, the USC Aiken men’s basketball team celebrated a well-deserved victory against Georgia Southwestern, securing an impressive 80-71 win. With this success, the Pacers improved their overall record to 11-4 and marked a strong 4-1 record in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play. The excitement in the arena was palpable, as fans cheered on their team to overcome a tough opponent.
The star of the show was undoubtedly Jalen McCoy, who took the court by storm, scoring a game-high 25 points along with a solid 12 rebounds. His contributions were pivotal in the team’s success, especially in key moments when the game was tightly contested. Fans were on the edge of their seats as he showcased his skills on both offense and defense.
Besides McCoy’s stellar performance, several other players rose to the occasion, showcasing the depth and teamwork that characterizes the Pacers. Rhyjon Blackwell added a valuable 20 points to the scoreboard, along with four crucial steals to help turn the tide in the Pacers’ favor. Davion Cunningham also made his mark, scoring 14 points, contributing four rebounds, two blocks, and two steals to enhance the team’s defensive strategy.
Even when the scoreboard wasn’t lighting up dramatically, every point count mattered. Caleb Byrd didn’t just record six points but managed to steal the ball four times, to keep the pressure on Georgia Southwestern.
The contest was a rollercoaster of emotions, with numerous ties and lead changes that kept the fans buzzing. The game kicked off with both teams battling for dominance, and at one point, USC Aiken found themselves in a familiar position—trailing. They quickly turned the tides, tying the score at 6-6, and later facing a 16-14 deficit. Never one to back down, Blackwell hit a free throw and then followed up with a three-pointer that tied the game again at 20-20.
As the first half ended, both teams were knotted at 34-34, but McCoy’s two free throws added just enough momentum for the Pacers to go into halftime with a slight advantage at 34-32. The second half saw him scoring again early on, pushing the lead to 39-37, and the Pacers started to build a commanding lead.
When it came to scoring in the paint, the Pacers left no stone unturned, outscoring Georgia Southwestern 40-32. The team’s rebounding effort was impressive as well, dominating the boards with a 42-30 advantage, including a standout 18-10 edge in offensive rebounds. Dwight Canady, Jr. and Kaleb Siler each contributed four points, proving that every player helped to fuel the team’s energetic drive.
