It’s that time of year again in Aiken, where the community comes together to honor its rich history and the incredible contributions of local heroes. This February, Umoja Village is rolling out the red carpet for Black History Month with a spectacular lineup of celebrations, including the unveiling of their brand-new 2025 wall calendar titled “Umoja Village Celebrates Black Excellence.”
This eagerly anticipated calendar is the third installment from Umoja Village and promises to shine a spotlight on those unsung heroes who make a big difference, often without any fanfare. These are the individuals you may not hear about in the news but who work tirelessly behind the scenes, supporting the community and inspiring others along the way.
Available for just $15, the 2025 calendar can be snagged at the Richard Johnson Jr. Umoja Village Resource Center, located at 831 Hayne Ave. S.W., or conveniently purchased online at umojavillage.com. This is a perfect opportunity to not only support the organization but also to add a touch of local pride to your home or office!
The calendar features a lineup of distinguished individuals, each honored for their positive contributions to the community throughout the year:
The festivities continue with a Black History Month banquet scheduled for 3 p.m. on February 2 at the Lessie B. Price Senior and Youth Center located at 841 Edgefield Ave. N.W.. It’ll be an afternoon filled with reflection, delicious food, and community spirit!
Tickets for this grand event are priced at $20 and can be bought at the resource center or through the Umoja Village website. Seniors and students can enjoy discounts, making it a wonderful opportunity for everyone to get involved and honor the local Black history.
The proceeds from both the calendar sales and the banquet will directly benefit Umoja Village, a nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting and empowering the community. By participating in these events, you not only celebrate local excellence but also actively contribute to ongoing initiatives that bolster the Aiken community.
So, whether you’re looking to hang a beautiful calendar on your wall or join fellow community members for an uplifting banquet, there are wonderful ways to engage this Black History Month. Let’s celebrate and recognize the amazing contributions that shape Aiken’s vibrant culture!
