Trenton Mourns the Loss of a Cherished Educator and Friend

The quaint town of Trenton, South Carolina is coming together to remember and celebrate the life of Eddie Harrison Boatwright, a beloved community member, who passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on February 16, 2025. Her absence is deeply felt, but her legacy will surely live on in the hearts of those she touched.

A Life Well-Lived

Eddie was born on December 15, 1938, to the late Beatrice Knight and Edmund Franks Harrison. Growing up in a close-knit family as the youngest of four sisters, Eddie quickly became known for her warm smile and lighthearted humor. She was a bright spark in the lives of everyone she met, whether in her home, her workplace, or her community.

Education and Career

Her journey began at the Trenton School and continued through Edgefield High School. Eddie’s passion for learning led her to pursue higher education at Columbia College in Columbia, SC. After earning her degree, she dove headfirst into her career as a teacher in Augusta, Georgia. Eddie loved inspiring young minds and poured her heart into creating a nurturing environment for her students.

After years of dedicated teaching, she returned to her roots in Trenton, where she raised her family with utmost love and dedication. Alongside her teaching career, Eddie also worked for the United States Postal Service, further engraining her in the fabric of the community she adored.

A Heart Full of Joy

Known for her cheerful disposition, Eddie was a vibrant socialite who embraced life with open arms. She was an active member of the Country Gardeners of Trenton and the Johnston Woman’s Club, and she played countless games of bridge with friends. Always one to extend a helping hand, Eddie volunteered as a Pink Lady at the Edgefield County Hospital, giving back with kindness and compassion.

A Devotion to Faith and Music

Faith played a significant role in Eddie’s life. She was a devoted member of the Johnston Methodist Church, where she not only attended services but also sang in the church choir, filling the sanctuary with her beautiful voice. Her love for music extended beyond the church walls, as Eddie enjoyed singing and dancing freely—her playful spirit was infectious!

A Loving Family

Eddie is preceded in death by her husband, James Ernest Boatwright, Jr., and her three beloved sisters: Francis, Helen, and Laura Ann. Yet, she leaves behind a wonderful family that includes her daughters, Ellen Courtney and Sally Faust, and five cherished grandchildren: Harriett-Graham, Harrison, Jordan, Bea, and Addison. To top it off, Eddie became a great-grandmother, embracing her great-grandchildren, Watson and Frank, with all the love she could muster. A dear friend, Emma O’Sullivan, also remains to honor Eddie’s memory.

A Celebration of Life

In recognition of her impactful life, a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the Johnston Methodist Church. Following the service, friends and family can gather in the church’s fellowship hall to share memories, love, and support. The family also expresses heartfelt gratitude to Gina O’Sullivan and the staff at Aiken Memory Care for their dedicated care in recent years.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Eddie’s memory can make contributions to the Johnston Methodist Church at P.O. Box 186, Johnston, SC 29832. Arrangements have been kindly handled by Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home.

Though Eddie has left this earthly realm, her spirit continues to shine brightly in the hearts and lives of all those she touched. Trenton will forever be grateful for the love and joy she brought into their lives.
