Sponsor Our ArticlesHello, Aiken residents! It’s a beautiful day here, with clear skies and temperatures expected to dip to a delightful 58°F tonight. As we bask in this lovely weather, let’s take a moment to look at all the exciting events happening around our lovely city this week. There’s something for everyone, so grab your calendar and get ready to jot some dates down!
Firstly, let’s not forget the recent performance by Mountain Dulcimers of Aiken. This talented trio, featuring Larry Gleason, Ginny Busbee, and Lani Snug, had the lovely crowd tapping their feet during their performance in Houndslake. If you’re interested in joining them, their next meeting is happening at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Living Hope Fellowship Church. It’s open for players of all levels or anyone interested in the dulcimer! Feel free to bring any acoustic instrument you fancy!
The Aiken Newcomers’ Club is inviting all new faces to join them on September 10 at Newberry Hall. Doors swing open at 9:30 a.m., and the meeting starts at 10:15 a.m. Do remember to book your spot as reservations are required. This month’s guest speaker is none other than Jeff Wallace, a beloved former news editor from the Aiken Standard.
If you’ve got little ones, be sure to head to the Rye Patch at 4 p.m. on Tuesday for the first Fall Story Time session. Bring along your favorite lawn chair or a cozy blanket to sit on the grass while enjoying delightful stories. It’s a delightful way for children to unwind, and hey, snacks are welcomed! If the weather turns, don’t worry, they will have an indoor option!
The Aiken County Public Library is hosting a Let’s Talk About Discussion series starting on September 17. Get your thinking caps ready as they dive into Southern Novels, kicking off with “Cold Mountain” led by Dr. Tom Mack. It’s a fantastic opportunity to connect with fellow book lovers while broadening your literary horizons.
On a more serious note, there’s a Living, Loving, Lifelong Learning Series lecture at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. This session, “Shine A Light: Together We Can Prevent Suicide,” will be incredibly informative and vital for anyone looking to support mental health in our community. A small fee of $5 is required, but your learning could make a huge difference!
Entrepreneurs, don’t miss the SBA workshop titled “Funding Your Small Business” at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. A great lineup of presenters will provide insights into the necessary tools you need to launch your business dreams into action. Whether you’re an established business owner or just starting out, it promises to be beneficial!
If you’re a fan of games, the Lessie B. Price Aiken Senior & Youth Center hosts an ACBL Sectional Bridge Game every Monday and Wednesday at 1 p.m.. Plus, a free bridge lesson is available beforehand, which is a great way to get your feet wet or improve your skills!
As we sail through September, mark your calendars for the CSRA College Night on September 12 and the Aiken Lions Club’s Golf Outing on the 23rd. There’s also a Murder Mystery Dinner Party happening at Red Lobster on September 16. These gatherings are a perfect opportunity to mingle and engage with the community.
Remember, Aiken, this week is filled with chances to connect, learn, and enjoy all that our vibrant city has to offer. So, whether you’re tapping your toes to dulcimer tunes, diving deep into discussions, or simply soaking in the clear skies, there’s no shortage of activities to keep you cheerful.
