Calling All Future Beekeepers!

If you’ve ever fancied yourself a naturalist or have a keen interest in the fascinating world of beekeeping, you won’t want to miss the Aiken Beekeepers Association’s annual New Beekeepers Classes. Kicking off at 6 p.m. at the cozy Trinity United Methodist Church on 2724 Whiskey Road, this class is perfect for those looking to start their own hive.

The classes will run through March 4, and all for just $70! This fee includes a comprehensive textbook, a membership to the Aiken Beekeepers Association, and ten full hours of buzzing instruction. Spots tend to fill up quickly, so make sure to register ahead of time through the Aiken Beekeepers website or give them a call at 912-660-7423.

Community Engagement on the Highway

Next up, if you’re passionate about keeping Aiken clean and beautiful, be sure to attend the Keep Aiken County Beautiful’s annual Adopt-A-Highway Safety and Interest Meeting, taking place at 5:30 p.m. at the Aiken County Government Center, located at 1930 University Parkway. This initiative is a fantastic way to get involved in local environmental efforts, and your voice really matters!

History Lovers Unite!

After the meeting, history enthusiasts can head over to the Beech Island Historical Society meeting, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the History & Visitors Center on 144 Old Jackson Highway. Milledge Murray, a direct descendant of Indian trader and Patriot George Galphin, will share some remarkable stories about the Galphin claim. It promises to be an enlightening evening, and the public is warmly invited to attend!

Support Groups for Everyone

The community also provides spaces for healing and support. The Awesome Aiken Al-Anon group meets Tuesdays at 6:30-7:30 p.m. at First Christian Church, and the Nar-Anon Family Group gathers at the same time on Tuesdays at St. John’s Methodist Church. For those interested in deeper conversations of recovery, Celebrate Recovery meets at 7 p.m. at Cedar Creek Church. The Depression Anxiety Bipolar Support Group meets online from 7-8:30 p.m. via GoToMeeting, making it accessible for many.

Ongoing Activities

Looking for something to do during the day? The Lessie B. Price Aiken Senior and Youth Center hosts an ACBL Sectional Bridge Game at 1 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, a great way to meet fellow card enthusiasts.

For those who love jazz, The Willcox offers a lively performance by 4 Cats in the Doghouse every Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m..

Concert and Teen Events

Don’t miss the upcoming concert titled “A Night at the Copa” featuring the Brandywine Brass and Maureen Simpson on Friday, January 31, at 7 p.m. at St. John’s Methodist Church. The Aiken County Public Library is also hosting a fun-filled Teen After Hours event on the same day from 6-7 p.m., featuring snacks and activities for students in grades 6 to 12.
