Hey there, Aiken! It looks like we’re in for a week filled with some pretty exciting events and updates. Grab your hats because we’re forecasted for mainly sunny skies with a high of 47°F. Just remember to bundle up, as temperatures will dip down to a chilly 24°F overnight. Perfect weather for soaking up some sun during the day while staying cozy by the fire come evening.
For those of you still enjoying the fruits of your labor—literally—beware! If you have any citrus fruits still hanging on your trees, there might be a chance of them splitting. This could lead to mold and eventually cause your fruit to drop. If you haven’t harvested yet, it might be time to pick those oranges and grapefruits before they go bad!
Mark your calendars for a touch of culture! The Aiken Woman’s Heart Board is putting on a delightful show titled I Heart Nola at the Etherredge Center on the USC Aiken campus. It runs through February 23 with tickets priced at $30. Not only will you enjoy a fantastic performance, but all proceeds go to the American Heart Association—so you’ll be enjoying art while making a difference!
If you’re looking for a family night out, the Aiken Community Theatre Youth Wing is performing A Year with Frog and Toad on February 21 and 22 at 7:30 PM. Ticket prices are family-friendly, costing $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and students, and just $17 for kids. A great way to introduce young ones to the joys of theater!
For those of you with a green thumb, be sure to check out the Lunchbox Lecture hosted by the Aiken Master Gardeners on February 21. Esteemed speaker Brent Ruggles will discuss Growing Large Fruit. Grab your brown bag lunch and get ready to dig deep into some gardening wisdom!
On the evening of February 21, St. John Baptist Church will celebrate the pastoral anniversary of the Rev. Dr. Curtis Blocker Sr. at 6 PM. This promises to be a wonderful gathering, celebrating faith and community together.
The City of Aiken is all set for its 15th Annual Black History Concert on February 22 from 5-9 PM. Make sure you grab your advance tickets for $29. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy uplifting performances while celebrating the rich heritage of our community!
Also on February 22, don’t miss the NPHC of Aiken’s Annual Men’s Health Fair from 10 AM to noon. This fantastic event will offer free health screenings—because looking out for your health is always in style!
Book lovers can continue their engagements with the Aiken County Public Library’s “Let’s Talk About” discussion series, which will run through March 25. The focus will be on Southern Novels, making for a warm and insightful conversations.
If you’re looking for a support group, be familiar that regularly scheduled meetings for the Back to Basics Alcoholics Anonymous group take place at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Remember, you’re not alone.
Looking ahead, we’ll be having a celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy on February 24, alongside an array of theatrical performances.
