The highlights included the crowning of Leilani Watson and Suhayb Nijim as Homecoming royalty during a thrilling basketball game and community spirit showcased through engaging activities and events, emphasizing unity among students and campus camaraderie.
Augusta, Georgia – The vibrant and spirited atmosphere of Augusta University was electric as the campus came together to celebrate Homecoming 2025. With the charming theme of “Forever Blue: No Stranger to Homecoming,” the festivities embraced the essence of camaraderie and tradition, uniting students, faculty, and the local community in a joyful celebration.
The highlight of the Homecoming week peaked on February 22, during the halftime of an electrifying men’s basketball game against the University of North Georgia. As the crowd cheered and the excitement built, the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived – the crowning of the Homecoming royalty. The student body, buzzing with anticipation, watched as Leilani Watson was crowned Homecoming queen and Suhayb Nijim received the title of Homecoming king.
The previous year’s royalty, Je’Bria Fullwood and Jaden Scott, had the honor of crowning the new king and queen, marking a significant tradition that enhances the sense of community on campus. Adding to the moment, Augusta University President Russell T. Keen took part in the crowning ceremony, emphasizing the importance of this celebration in nurturing school spirit and bonding.
The crowning of Watson and Nijim was not the only highlight. The night preceding the big game, Rebeccaarmani Thomas and Carlton Collins were honored as Homecoming duchess and duke, respectively, during an enchanting Homecoming Dance. These four individuals were elected by popular vote from the student body and will proudly serve as ambassadors for Augusta University throughout the year.
Watson, pursuing a degree in business administration, initially felt a bit shy about joining the royal court. However, thanks to her encouraging sorority sisters, she eventually embraced the opportunity. Watson aims to set a positive example for her peers, emphasizing the importance of self-confidence and support in building a tight-knit community.
Nijim, who is focused on cell and molecular biology, has made it his mission to encourage fellow students to step out of their comfort zones. He believes that taking risks and forming new connections can lead to personal growth and self-improvement. He expressed that his Homecoming experience was filled with engagement and excitement, underscoring the unity of the student body.
On the other hand, Thomas, a second-year business administration major, initially sought reassurance through her duchess candidacy. Driven by a desire to foster friendships, she looks forward to enhancing the campus culture and ensuring every student feels welcome. Collins, also a second-year biology major, campaigned with creativity, emphasizing the importance of understanding and addressing student concerns. As duke, he is committed to advocating for his peers and improving the overall campus experience.
The overall Homecoming event sparked a sense of connection and community among the students. The crowning ceremony, lively dances, and the buzzing basketball game combined to create unforgettable memories for everyone involved. Through royal representation and student engagement, Augusta University has reaffirmed its commitment to being a welcoming space for all students.
As the university looks ahead, the Homecoming royalty will symbolize the best of what it means to be a part of Augusta University. Their roles as ambassadors set the stage for a year filled with positivity, collaboration, and school spirit, proving that, indeed, this university is “No Stranger to Homecoming.”
