This mural is the result of a wonderful collaboration between the Augusta Housing and Community Development Department and multiple local organizations. Key partners include the City of Augusta, the Porter Fleming Foundation, the Greater Augusta Arts Council, and the Lucy Craft Laney Museum of Black History and Conference Center. They all came together to celebrate and honor the heritage and contributions of Augusta’s African American community, particularly in the historic Laney-Walker and Bethlehem neighborhoods.
Artist Theron Cartwright took inspiration from numerous local musicians, educators, and businesses that have played a key role in shaping Augusta’s arts culture.
