Good news for everyone in Augusta! Mark your calendars because on February 22, 2025, Augusta University will be buzzing with energy as it hosts the much-anticipated Augusta Half Marathon, alongside the 10K and 5K races. This event is not just a race; it’s a celebration of fitness, community, and a great opportunity for runners of all ages!
All races will kick off bright and early on Saturday morning, with the half marathon starting at 7:15 a.m., followed by the 10K at 7:25 a.m., and finally the 5K race taking off at 7:45 a.m. The starting point for all events will be on Walker Street, right by Augusta University’s beautiful Summerville campus, near the well-known Grover C. Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre.
The scenic race courses will take participants through the charming Summerville neighborhood. Runners will enjoy wide-open streets, beautiful views, and vibrant community spirit, before heading back to campus via Taylor Street. And for those who can’t make it in person, no worries! There’s a virtual option available for all three events!
In addition to the main races, young children can get involved in the action with the Medals for Miles youth fun run. This engaging event is aimed at youngsters from kindergarten through third grade, making sure everyone has a chance to get active and have fun. It’s a perfect way to inspire the little ones to embrace the joy of running!
By participating in this event, you’re also giving back to the community! Proceeds from the race will go towards the Augusta Sports Council’s mission and the G.A.M.E.S. Scholarship Fund. This fund supports graduating high school student-athletes in the Augusta community, which is a fantastic way to encourage and foster local talents.
If you’re up for a challenge, this event is part of the CSRA Hat Trick Challenge. Participants will have the chance to race in not just the Augusta Half Marathon/10K/5K, but also tackle the Triple Crown Road Race 5K/10 miler in Aiken on March 8, and the Palmetto Peach Half Marathon/10K/5K in North Augusta that takes place in November. It’s a great way to stay motivated throughout the year!
What makes this event even more special is that it will coincide with Augusta University’s homecoming weekend! This weekend will be packed with exciting sports events and community activities, featuring a total of seven home games. Attendees can look forward to baseball, men’s and women’s tennis matches, and thrilling basketball games. Additionally, important homecoming happenings will include the men’s tennis match against Francis Marion and the tradition of crowning the Homecoming King and Queen during the basketball game.
This festive weekend will wrap up on February 23, 2025, with the women’s tennis team hosting Brenau University, ensuring the excitement continues all weekend long. The homecoming week will kick off on February 16, 2025, with a Kick Off Fireworks Show and a lineup of themed events that will ignite school spirit throughout the campus!
Registration for the marathon and fun runs is currently open and will remain available until February 19, 2025. So get those running shoes ready, rally your friends and family, and don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity to be part of a vibrant community event in Augusta!
