Aiken Welcomes February with Sunny Skies and Local Events

Hey there, Aiken! As we step into February, we’re looking forward to some bright days ahead. If you’re stepping out this morning, be ready for a bit of fog; it should clear up by afternoon, paving the way for sunny blue skies. The high temperature today is expected to hit a pleasant 69°F with gentle southern breezes at 5 to 10 mph. If you plan on enjoying the evening outside, temperatures will dip to around 48°F, so maybe grab a light jacket! The winds will shift to the southwest, still keeping it nice and calm.

Music and Community Engagement

If you’re a young boy in grades 3 to 8 with an interest in singing, we’ve got a fantastic opportunity for you! Today at 4 p.m., be sure to swing by Aiken’s First Baptist Church, located at 120 Chesterfield St. N, for open practice and auditions for the Bound to Sing Boys Choir. This choir is a great way to showcase your vocal skills, and it will be directed by the talented Phillip Hare. For any questions or more info, don’t hesitate to reach out at 803-270-5195 or email ayc.directors@gmail.com.

A Gathering for Peace

Also happening today from 4 to 5 p.m. is a meaningful Vigil for Peace and Nonviolence, hosted by Aiken Women In Black and Moms Demand Action. This event will take place on Whiskey Road, right across from The Fresh Market. Everyone is welcome to join, and you’re encouraged to bring some nonpartisan signs to show your support for peace in the community.

Weekly Fun with Bingo

Looking for some entertainment to kick off your week? Check out the Let’s Go Bingo event happening every Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Aiken Senior Life Services. For just a $5 cover charge, you can join in on the fun, with game cards priced anywhere from $1 to $25. Who knows? You might walk away with a fabulous prize!

Informative Health Lecture

Attention health-conscious residents! On February 4 at 11 a.m., the City of Aiken Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department is hosting a lecture on heart health at the Lessie B. Price Aiken Senior & Youth Center. There’s a small fee of $5, and make sure to register beforehand to secure your spot!

Support Groups and Club Meetings

Aiken offers various support groups and hobbies to get involved in this month. If you’re looking for a supportive space, the Awesome Aiken Al-Anon group meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at First Christian Church. Beam up your creativity in the “Coloring for Grownups” sessions happening on February 6 and 20, or join in on the ACBL Bridge Game on Mondays and Wednesdays!

Upcoming Events to Mark on Your Calendar

Get ready for an exciting February! Check out the USC Aiken Winter Nocturne on February 6 at 7 p.m., with tickets at $25. Plus, local clubs and workshops will be buzzing throughout the month, including important health initiatives like the Medicare National Diabetes Prevention Program starting on February 5. Don’t forget, we’ve got a black tie gala coming up for the Child Advocacy Center on May 9, with ticket sales kicking off on February 20!

Weather Watch

On another note, let’s not forget a heads up regarding the weather! Next week, temperatures are expected to drop into the low 20s, which means it’s time to prepare. Be sure to let your faucets drip and keep your furry friends indoors to keep them safe during those chilly days ahead.

Hello, Aiken—what a vibrant community we have! With so much happening, make sure to get involved while enjoying the sunny weather and exciting local events!
